Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) Parliamentary candidate for Mmopane–Metsimotlhabe, Pushie Manyeneng has a lot of changes that she wishes to bring to the problem-plagued constituency.
Manyeneng who is also the Alliance for Progressives (AP) Women’s league President explained that her activism is rooted in women empowerment. That is one of the reasons why she decided to represent the coalition in order to boost the numbers of women in politics.
She acknowledges that there are a lot of challenges that women in politics face but she is determined not to let the challenges distract her from delivering on her promises to her supporters.
A native of Metsimotlhabe, Manyeneng explains that the village is lacking in developments. She is prepared to bring developments to the constituency, including the village of Mmopane. Manyeneng said that youth unemployment is rife in Mmopane and Mmopane Block 1 and their plan is to alleviate residents from this burden.
“There are a lot of jobs that can be started in this constituency, but the BDP has no political will to see it through,” Manyeneng said, adding that there are areas where vegetables can be planted, and a market place to sell the produce.
She says that a majority of young people in her constituency are sport orientated, citing snooker as one of the beloved sports, adding that it is high time that these sporting codes are supported with competitions, proper facilities to help the youth to focus on sports that can give them an income.
Manyeneng wishes to see an integrated centre set up for people with disabilities in her constituency where they can get proper and professional support complete with a programme to help them improve their lives.
Some of the many problems in the constituency include the lack of adequate junior schools and this forces, according to Manyeneng, many children having to walk long distances from Mmopane to Metsimotlhabe to attend school. Her party's desire is to have a school in a central place to reduce the number of students who have to walk from Mmopane to Metsimotlhabe.
If given the opportunity to represent the constituency Manyeneng will lobby for talent based education especially for younger children.
“We need a clinic with a maternity ward,” Manyeneng said, adding that the constituency has overgrown the existing clinic in the area.
