Gaolathe explains how UDC will create 350 000 jobs

The Vice President of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), Ndaba Gaolathe has given a sneak peek into what the coalition party envisions for Botswana, saying that they will generate 350 000 jobs for them, with an average salary above P9000.Explaining the possible ways in which the UDC government would reach such a target, Gaolathe said they would create several streams from which the country will generate funds. He criticised the current regime for having stopped developing the economy of Botswana in the 1970s, saying that the time has come for Batswana to build their own economy as Debswana remains the country’s sole shining beacon since independence.He said that it was time for the nation to have other unicorns in the business world - more companies that can alleviate the nation of Botswana from poverty. He explained that under the leadership of the UDC, the nation will build two more large companies that can stand side by side with Debswana, adding that these companies will bolster the economy and eliminate unemployment.Gaolathe emphasised that workers in Botswana are not happy with where they are and what they get hence there is a dire need for an economic revolution that starts with national leaders being in good working relations with the people of the country.“You have to have faith that you have what it takes,” Gaolathe said, adding that the youth of this nation have to believe that regime change is possible prior to going to the ballot box. He urged the youth not to give in as they have what it takes to transform the country to be a better place. They should instead employ excellence and love in all that they do, he said.“We will build a wealth fund,” Gaolathe revealed, adding that the fund will be used to purchase international companies for the benefit of Batswana and all Batswana will benefit from it. He indicated that the UDC manifesto states that all Batswana have a right to have a home and through rapid growth of Botswana’s economy they will be able to reach this goal.
