"He will be putting himself in danger along with his family, wife and children as well as friends”
The president of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), Duma Boko has sent a chilling warning to the Secretary of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Jefferson Siamisang not to dare ‘steal’ this month’s general election.
Speaking at the launch of Tati West parliamentary candidate Justine Hunyepa over the holidays, Boko said that the IEC Secretary is wrong by making utterances that people will be arrested for standing next to the polling stations during voting day.
Boko said that if one is arrested for doing so, the police officers will be breaking the law. He urged members of the UDC to guard against any form of cheating during the elections. He added that observers of the UDC will travel with the ballot boxes to the counting centres in the upcoming elections as it is their right to do so. He said there will be no ballot box that will leave any polling station without a UDC observer in the same vehicle.
“If Siamisang tries to steal the elections, he will be putting himself in danger along with his family, wife and children as well as friends,” Boko warned, adding that Batswana will not allow any cheating and stealing in the upcoming elections. Turning to UDC Manifesto promises, Boko explained that Batswana will get a better quality of life through a UDC-led government. He said that Batswana children will get better education under a UDC government.
Boko said that President Mokgweetsi Masisi would not dare take his child to a government school as he knows the poor quality of education that his child would receive in a government school, which he is ultimately in charge of.
He slammed the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) for violating the rights of Batswana, saying the UDC is offering a better alternative. School children, he said, will have breakfast and lunch at school under the UDC national schools feeding programme.
He explained that upon realising that government schools do not have books, the UDC donated books to government schools until the government warned school heads against taking the books.
Boko said that the only way parents can give their children a better future is by voting for the UDC and ensuring that the elections are not rigged at the polling stations and counting centres, warning that if care is not taken, the
ruling party will steal the elections once again.
Boko said that Justine Hunyepa is fit to represent Batswana as a Member of Parliament. This is due to the extensive experience he has from the unions where he would fight for the rights of people.
