BNF Women's League expel committee members

Botswana National Front Women’s League (BNFWL) has slapped three of its committee members with expulsion letters.The three members are Vice President Amogelang Bogosi, Secretary for Political Education Dorcus Oboetswe and Additional Member Kentse Mollentze. The trio whose alleged misconduct vary, is said to have failed to appear before a disciplinary committee.Bogosi is accused of being inactive and failing to avail herself for disciplinary proceedings that were scheduled for the 5th of August 2023.According to a letter from the BNFWL Secretary General Katlego Morolong dated 24th of August 2023, the BNF has resolved to “release you from the portfolio as vice president.“The decision was advised by article 9.2 of the BNF Code of Conduct which avers that not attending a meeting for three meetings, an individual ceases to be a member of the committee.”Oboetswe is expelled following her suspension which was taken against her in April this year. According to her expulsion letter, she was suspended for three months for misconduct.“Your misconduct was on the basis of fraud committed during a workshop in which you were representing the women’s league and a case of theft.“The conditions of your expulsion were that you are not in any way permitted to act on behalf or present yourself as a member of the women’s league during this period,” a letter dated 30th August 2023 reads.The secretary general stated that Oboetswe violated this requirement and went further to create debts for the women’s league. The expelled secretary for political education is released from the committee on the basis of the aforesaid.Mollentze is said to be expelled from attending the committee meetings. She is said to have failed to avail herself before a disciplinary committee for a hearing which was slated for 5th of August 2023.The trio has been asked to forward their queries to the women’s league chairperson Tiny Seaitsoketsa. Morolong declined to comment arguing that this is an internal matter.The 13-member-committee was elected in March last year in Thamaga during the Women’s League congress. Dr. Bonang Nkoane was voted the women’s league president in an election that was marred by controversy over failure to follow processes and procedures.The losing team argued that the elections were marred by irregularity, fraudulent conduct and flagrant disregard for the BNF’s laid down election procedures. The most insidious part of this election was the criteria used for accepting voters.
