BNF requires continuity, stability - Motshegwa

Botswana National Front (BNF) Secretary General, Ketlhalefile Motshegwa, says as part of the Government, the BNF requires leadership continuity, stability, and objectivity.Motshegwa, who will be defending his position in the coming BNF Congress billed for Palapye in July this year against Dr Steven Modise, argues that the party does not require leadership experiments, trials, and apprenticeship, which has the risk of costing them power.Motshegwa and Dr Modise both serve in President Advocate Duma Boko’s cabinet. In his message to BNF members, Motshegwa stated that the choice of SG in the coming July 2025 congress is about who has the leadership pedigree and political experience to marshal the BNF to face the opposition parties, all other political challenges, and bring a resounding victory in 2029.“I am that person, as I have done it in 2024. I have proven myself on the grandest stage of them all. I bear leadership credentials for the task at hand,” Motshegwa, who is also MP for Mmadinare and Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, said.The BNF SG pointed out that success demands seven things being clarity, discipline, consistency, patience, courage, adaptability, and self-belief.“I happen to be an embodiment of this profound success menu. I remain calm and focused, with conviction that truly UDC will retain power in 2029, because BNF will still be strong and the UDC Government will have delivered its promises to the people.“My fellow comrades, we will get there. Let us always have hope, for hope is a powerful force. As Emily Dickinson said, 'hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul and sings the tune without the words and never stops at all'."In his steadfast commitment to preserving the values and spirit of BNF, Motshegwa has demonstrated unwavering patriotism and deep passion, offering himself to continue serving as Secretary General.His tenure has been marked by a historic and unprecedented performance—one that played a pivotal role in ushering in a new government under the leadership of Adv. Boko.According to Motshegwa, without doubt he has brought transformation in BNF, by putting in place a strategic plan, governance architecture for strong, effective, efficient and professional administration.“I worked with others as a team in the Central Committee led by VP Cde Micus Chimbombi as was delegated by President and we achieved great things. As SG, I have protected, advanced and nurtured the ideological underpins of the BNF policy framework outlined in Social Democratic Programme, Pamphlet Number 1, BNF Policy Document, and other political material,” Motshegwa said.His leadership success entails bringing the BNF strategic plan, operational policies for good governance, template or tools for leadership of party structures such as report writing, minutes taking and filing for records preservation, regular and consistent Executive Committee and central committee meetings, with professional agenda ahead of meeting, circulation of resolutions to structures, solid and detailed SG report to conferences thus depicting responsibility and accountability, strong party structures that delivered council seats in 2024 general elections.He introduced the human resource policy, enhanced party staff with professionals and built harmonious relations with alliance partners in the UDC.“My duty as BNF SG in the past general election campaigns was to coordinate a strategic programme for BNF to deliver constituencies allocated to it, and surely we have delivered that as our contribution to change of government with 24 parliamentary seats and 224 council seats.“I have discharged my duties with discipline, utmost diligence and merit for professionalisation of the party and strong administration.”
