Secretary General of Botswana National Front (BNF), Ketlhalalefile Motshegwa says President Mokgweetsi Masisi has proven over time that he and his cabinet are incapable of leading the nation.
Motshegwa told the media this week that this is evident in the fact that whenever he addresses the nation in any platform, there is a dire lack of seriousness as he makes fun of the painful reality that Batswana find themselves trapped in.
Motshegwa said Masisi and his cabinet have failed to develop the nation of Botswana and take it out of the claws of unemployment and extreme poverty.
He blasted the ruling party for its inability to bring solutions to the ever-rising unemployment crises and the soaring levels of mental health problems that come from it.
Motshegwa is unimpressed by Masisi’s comical comments on a lot of issues, saying that the president is not a sound leader that understands the plight of the nation. He said policies of the current regime are a pathetic attempt on the side of the ruling party to offer the nation better lives.
Motshegwa noted that the BNF cannot sit on the side lines and watch as the government continue to fail the nation, therefore they have set in motion a number of strategies that will eventually see opposition taking power and giving Batswana better solutions.
According to Motshegwa, the BNF will do the necessary contributions to the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) to ensure that regime change is seen in Botswana. He is adamant that they have the answer for Batswana and the unemployment, poor health care and crime that plagues the country.
He said the BNF is committed to promoting stability internally and in the parties it works with to see to it that regime change is seen.
The BNF said that the party has no internal feuds as alleged online. According to the Vice President of the party, Micus Chimbombi, what is seen as divisions from the outside is a combination of a vigorous democratic stance by members of the party. He said it is normal for people to have different views but does not mean they are under an authoritarian ruler.
Chimbombi noted that the youth league of the BNF is a semiautonomous movement which has an agenda to drive. Their mission is to primarily add to the BNF and he refuted claims of a crisis within the youth league.
Chairperson of the BNF Dr. Patrick Molutsi said that the party is pushing for gender equality and is including this in their strategic role. He said that just because the President of the Women’s League and the leader of the Youth
League who were both women quit within a short space of time, it does not mean that there is a form of oppression taking place against women.
Molutsi said that they constantly meet with the leadership of the Women’s League and the Youth and they have planned workshops that are tailor made to empower women within the party. Molutsi said that a lot of women have indicated their desire to stand for the primary elections.
