William Simon, 64, of Moshupa, has been left deformed and a shadow of his former self after losing teeth and his left eye in a brutal attack by an intruder.

The victim, whose face is covered in stitches, reportedly lost seven teeth, suffered a torn mouth extending from the left side up to his ear, and permanently lost his left eye. His remaining right eye has also been stitched from the inside.

Narrating his ordeal to The Midweek Sun, Simon said he feels lucky to be alive. He revealed that the gruesome attack occurred on December 27th.

The family was asleep at home in Moshupa when they heard footsteps outside. They knew no one else was present, as their tenants were not in.

Simon said his dog was barking uncontrollably, which raised his suspicions, prompting him to step outside and investigate.

Concerned, Simon stepped outside to investigate and noticed the light was switched on in one of the tenant's houses. As he approached the area, he discovered a Zimbabwean man he vaguely identified inside the tenant's house.

The window burglar bars had been broken to allow entry. Upon seeing Simon, the intruder attacked him with a car jack, striking him in the face, and repeatedly hit him with a beer bottle, causing severe injuries.

After collapsing from his injuries, Simon said the suspect fled the scene, leaving behind a bolt cutter and tools used to break into the house.

Simon was left in a pool of blood, screaming for help. His wife, who heard his cries, rushed to the scene to assist him.

"I have lost my eye and can no longer see properly. I was healthy before the incident, and my eyes were fine. Now, I have been turned into a disabled person," he said.

The family revealed that fortunately, they were able to trace the suspect, who had also sustained injuries. Simon was able to identify him by the injuries he had inflicted during the struggle.

Appearing before the Kanye Magistrate, the suspect, Wiling Mochesa (40), who has been charged with two counts - entering Botswana illegally without proper documentation and causing grievous harm - pleaded guilty and has been remanded in custody.
