... against homosexual bill

Hundreds of Christian protestors marched from Open Baptist Church in Maruapula, Gaborone to Parliament on Saturday singing songs of praise and worship, and praying in tongues along the way, as they sought to lobby against the homosexuality bill that is to be tabled before parliament soon.

More such demonstrations are planned to continue across the country, according to the Campaign's Publicity Chairperson at the Gaborone Chapter of the Evangelical Fellowship of Botswana (EFB) organizing committee, Kgosietsile Senne. He said Christians in Mochudi and in Francistown are planning to have marches this coming Saturday.

Senne explained that the campaign is to lobby MPs to vote "no" to Bill No 29 of 2022 that seeks to legalise homosexuality.

Reading the petition in front of Parliament buildings to members of parliament who were present - Francistown South Member of Parliament Wynter Mmolotsi and Member of Parliament for Gaborone Bonnington South Christian Greeff - Pastor Pulafela Siele of EFB implored MPs to reject any proposal that would see Botswana allow same sex relations.

He further said, rather, the issue could be subjected to a national referendum. He emphasised that homosexuality is unbiblical and against the order of nature because the bible abhors homosexuality therefore it is their duty to take the same biblical stand.

“Christianity is not a terror faith that is superimposed on people but it offers choices to either accept it or reject it,” Pastor Siele said, adding that they will continue to emphasise the importance of God’s forgiveness and its promised empowerment to bring about behavioral change in the life of those who struggle against homosexuality as they love them and they know that God can change them. Pastor Siele said that the grace of God and love of God can transform anyone’s life.

Receiving the petition, MP Mmolotsi said that they will take the petition to parliament. He acknowledged the presence of the Christian community with regards to the matter they were bringing forward to them. He applauded them for not hiding their faith.

MP Greeff said that a lot of MP’s have already received the petitions from the Christian community.

He asked the Christian community to pray for national leaders so that God may help them through their leadership reigns as no one can lead if they are not helped by God.
