Former Member of Parliament for Shashe West and cabinet member, Fidelis Molao has also thrown his name in the hat of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) race for Deputy Secretary General.

The BDP will hold its crucial national elective congress in July this year in Maun. Central Committee positions aspirants have hit the ground running as they prepare to battle it out in an expected fierce contest.

Molao, a former deployee of the BDP Central Committee revealed this week that he decided to join the race as he believes he is capable to deliver the aspirations of fellow democrats.

“I bring an intimate knowledge and experience on the value system of the BDP, a BDP which is free from corruption and tribal politics.

“A deep knowledge on the operations and systems that make the BDP a party for the people and party for the masses a party for the downtrodden,” Molalo said in an interview this week.

According to the former legislator, he brings a deep knowledge of running a Bulela-Ditswe system that gives each member their full rights to vote and be voted, that gives each member access to their membership cards.

"I ran the party office for seven years and saw through the introduction of the first Bulela-Ditswe in 2003 and the second batch in 2008 with success," Molao said.

He became one of the few members of the BDP especially MPs to condemn how the party through its president, Mokgweetsi Masisi failed to package its electoral message for the 2024 general election. The BDP suffered a devastating defeat in October last year which resulted in the party becoming a minority in Parliament.

Molao argues that he is a true-blue son of the party who has dedicated his whole life to the service of the party from 1995 to date and able to connect the young and old in the party.

“I have traversed all the terrains of this country in service to the party from Tlokweng to Mamuno, Ramatlabama to Ramokgwebana, Martins Drift to Kazungula and Mohembo both as a party functionary and a government minister assigned to two of the most challenging ministries you can think of, Basic Education and Agriculture.

“I have the experience and temperament of what is needed during this trying time”, Molao proclaimed.
