Traditional healer praised for restoring broken marriages

In the small village of Pitseng which is located some 30km from Jwaneng town, there is a popular name of ‘Motlogelwa’ which is on the lips of many villagers.

This is a man well-known for making people’s sufferings and pain disappear. The mention of his name sees the old and young burst into wide smiles and they ask, “You mean the healer man? You want to visit him too?”

And some are quick to share how the man has helped them escape the jaws of death when they had given up on life.

But what this man is mostly praised for, is his ability to make love come easily for those needing it. His ability to restore broken relationships and marriages and also make a man or woman commit in a relationship.

“He is a cut above the rest, relationships are his area of speciality, he has helped so many in Pitseng, most women gather there for his services,” a group of elders resting under the shade of a tree in Pitseng village told this reporter.

They said it is common knowledge that when women in Pitseng come of age, they are taken to him for cleansing to prepare them for adulthood and that includes the ability to attract men.

Asked if any of them had been to Motlogelwa’s place, the oldies laughed and said that it is a girl’s closely-guarded secret, that no one can openly admit or disclose what they do behind closed doors.

But one thing they failed to keep to themselves is the rumour mill swirling in Pitseng of how Motlogelwa uses a live chicken and corn when attending to female clients.

"You want us to be labelled gossip mongers, you better go but before you go, just know that if you are intending to see him, he will put corn in your private parts and direct the chicken to eat it from down there." At that moment,

all the ladies burst into a hearty laughter, adding that they too are interested in knowing why Motlogelwa does that.

After a laborious search, The Midweek Sun finally located the famous Motlogelwa. He resides in the outskirts of Pitseng village in an area he identifies as Bojalemala. His house is in the bushes and far away from people. He did this deliberately in order to isolate.

"Who are you and what business do you have here," he asks?

When the team introduces itself and what they need from him, he snorts, clearly not impressed by the thought of having to speak to journalists.

Nonetheless his face is welcoming. He does not seem angry or agitated, just a bit surprised.

"My names are Motlogelwa Setsimatsima. I am a traditional healer. I have been practising and curing people all my life. My father was a healer as well," he says, adding that he attends to people with different kinds of ailments and always delivers desired results.

The 62-year-old shares that it has never happened that a person comes to him and he does not deliver good results. This is why he is well known in Pitseng.

"I am never after money, all I do is help Batswana because witchcraft is real, some do not believe this while others do. But in most cases that I attend to, they are a result of witchcraft. As a traditional healer, I am not ignorant to issues that require one to go to the hospital. I am not about scamming people. If the situation suggests to me that you need the hospital, I send you there," Setsimatsima said.

The healer confirms that he indeed helps people with love issues.

"It seems I am more into those because they do come here in large numbers but not only women, men are also regular visitors. They cry of lost lovers and I assist them and yes I do assist young ladies to be able to find lovers," he said.

When asked if he indeed makes chickens eat corn from female private parts, Setsimatsima laughed and said he will not want to comment on the matter.

"I cannot really tell what I do when I am in my consultation room. It is unfortunate that some people come here then tell what was done.

“There are different ways of healing the sick and some ways cannot really be shared in public. I have been notified of that rumour which is fast spreading in Pitseng," he said.
