A 38-year-old man of Somerset East in Francistown is suspected to have drunk a poisonous Tick and Flea Dip usually used to treat dog ticks, to kill himself.

Superintendent Neo Serumula of Kutlwano Police Station in Francistown told The Midweek Sun that on Saturday, they received a report that a man had allegedly committed suicide.

According to Serumola, when Police arrived at the scene, the man was lying unconscious and was rushed to Nyangabgwe Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

Serumula said that a bottle of Tick and Flea Dip was found beside him when he was discovered. He said they are still waiting for confirmation from the doctors and relevant government departments to test the contents of the bottle.

Serumula said that police preliminary investigations indicate that the night before the man took his life, he had a misunderstanding with his female partner. Police are yet to investigate what really led to the argument.

Serumula urged members of the public to always seek assistance from different stakeholders to get counselling to resolve differences.

He said this is the eighth suicide incident to occur in his policing area.
