A 27-year old Zimbabwean man, Anesu Hanjere appeared for mention before Extension 2 Magistrate on Monday for the brutal murder of his cousin on the 5th of January 2025 in Ramotswa.

Acting on a tip off, the police were alerted of the possibility of a corpse in a pit latrine due to a strong smell from the toilet.

The officers immediately rushed to the crime scene and indeed found the corpse and retrieved it from the toilet.

The police established that the victim’s head, arm, and leg had been cut and the body was thrown into the latrine.

The deceased, 31, was buried the same day after the discovery without his private parts.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the two were cousins who lived together and had a quarrel that escalated, resulting in the murder.

Representing the state, Sergeant Simon Galebonwe of Ramotswa Police pleaded with the court to extend the warrant of remand in custody.

For his part murder suspect Hanjere did not ask for bail and told the court that all he wants is to die.

Magistrate Kaveri Kapeko remanded the suspect in custody as investigations are ongoing and he will appear in court for mention on the 11th of February 2025.
