A 30-year-old man of Seabe ward in Serowe committed suicide last Sunday morning after stabbing his 28-year-old girlfriend with a sharp object.

Serowe Police Station Commander, Poloko Oteng says the incident was reported by relatives after they found the deceased hanging from a tree in Sesoma ward.

The man stabbed his girlfriend in the wee hours of Sunday and fled the scene. Oteng told The Midweek Sun that relatives of the woman followed the man’s footprints and found him hanging on a rope from a tree.

“The police rushed to both scenes and both the dead man and the woman were taken to Sekgoma Memorial Hospital. The woman survived, while the man was certified dead by medical doctors upon arrival at the hospital,” Oteng said.

Investigations are continuing as to what could have transpired between the lovers.

He said suicide cases in his policing area are worrisome, as since January this year to date, 10 cases have been recorded. Of the 10, seven are males and three are females.

According to Oteng, cases have increased compared to those reported in the same period in 2021, which stood at eight.

Oteng urged members of the public to reach out to different stakeholders for assistance in any matter that they cannot handle, advising men to open up and speak up about their troubles because suicide is never a solution.
