Sir Seretse Khama International Airport Police are investigating a case in which an unidentified person burnt to ashes inside a car in Ledumadumane this past Monday.

According to SSKIA Station commander, Mmoloke Mpho Sebako, they received a report from a concerned passer-by that a car was burning somewhere in the Ledumadumane bushy area and it appears a person was inside.

When the police arrived at the scene, the unidentified person and the car had burned to ashes.

“At this point we cannot really tell if the burnt person was a man or woman. We are still trying to establish who they are. But we do have a missing person case that was reported in Mogoditshane.

“We are still trying to figure out if there is a link or not. We are appealing to members of the community to assist with information that can help us resolve this matter,” Sebako said.

Meanwhile, speculation is rife that the deceased person wanted to commit suicide and information gathered suggests that the deceased is male.

Allegations say the deceased was seen driving at a very low speed of about 10km/h or less. Those that were nearer where the incident occurred, did not pay much attention when seeing the man, thinking that he was there for other business other than killing himself.

Few minutes later, a loud bang was heard followed by the car immediately catching fire. People rushed to where the car was only to find that there was no stopping the fire or assisting the driver.

“Yes I have heard of the matter, all we currently have are allegations, nobody has facts on the issue. When I arrived at the scene, fire fighters had already arrived and had begun putting out the fire.

“I hear he was seen driving at very slow speed before something exploded and the car caught fire,” Councillor Kemiso Tom of Ledumadumane West in the Mogoditshane constituency, said.

The fire caused great damage where the incident happened.
