Khato Civils (Pty) Ltd has dismissed allegations that the company paid former minister Dr Kefentse Mzwinila P700, 000.00 to be awarded a tender.
Chief Executive Officer Mongezi Mnyani said the alleged payment of P700,000 is a gross “taradiddle lie”. He stated that the alleged proof of payment from FNB Botswana, which is circulating along with the false news article, is a forged, fake document as Khato Civils does not have a bank account with FNB in Botswana or any other country they operate in.
Various online publications have alleged that the company made the payment through the procurement of machinery bought in Israel.
“We are aware that this is a sponsored article aimed at misleading the public and damaging our good reputation on fabrication grounds by competitors.
“As a company we remain committed to promoting and adhering to fair reporting and access to information. We are therefore dismayed that this publication made no effort to contact Khato Civils to respond to the false allegations before publication”, the CEO said.
According to Mnyani if anyone has evidence of such serious allegations being disseminated, why not just present necessary evidence to various law enforcement institutions/agencies that are responsible and charged with investigations of such allegations.
“Any prosecution of crime is dealt with by competent courts and not the media through mudslinging. It therefore follows logic that if anyone had such evidence, the best place to present such evidence would be the appropriate institutions for immediate investigation and prosecution and we challenge you to do that either here in the Republic of South Africa”, he said. The CEO explained that Khato
Civils and its entire executive management has and will always support fair business competition and not dirty business practices of making unfounded, malicious allegations in the media where those accused have no fair opportunity of defending themselves.
“We will as usual not take such sponsored attacks lightly, we will fight ferociously against such falsehoods”, he warned.
He argued that their Chairman, Simbi Phiri has never been arrested nor ever charged for any crime in South Africa or any other country.
He added, “For the record, the Botswana Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) appointed Khato Civils, South Zambezi and NTR Joint Venture for the design, supply, installation, construction and commissioning of Mmamashia Water Treatment Works to meet its planned and set objectives.”
According to Mnyani the project scope entails the construction of a new module that can receive and treat 110 Ml/day of raw water supplied from Dikgatlhong, Letsibogo and associated wellfields along the North South Carrier (NSC) Water Transfer Corridor.
He explained that at commissioning, the upgraded plant must be able to treat total flows of up to 220 Ml/day with Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) which is a flow of 110 Ml/day from the existing NSC 1 treatment Module will be combined with that from the new NSC 2.2 pipeline at the newly-constructed Constant Level Tank and Mixer 4.
