Elderly man, Lucas Moragi of Goo-Ntšwa ward in Ntlha-ya-Godimo, Ramotswa, has finally admitted openly that indeed there is a plan to remove Kgosi Mosadi Seboko of Balete from her position as Paramount Chief of the tribe. This has always been the suspicion of Kgosi Seboko and her deputy, Kgosi Tsimane Mokgosi, that the royal seat is being targeted through recent clandestine activities within the Balete enclave. They have in the past told this publication that the chaos happening in the village - with a section of the community continuously determined to defy Bogosi orders - meant only one thing: a fight for power.Chaos descended in the village last year when Kgosi and her advisors decided there would be no Bogwera that year since they had not fully prepared for the initiation ceremony.A group calling itself Maphalaola- a-Pitse Cultural Association decided to defy the orders and went on to take willing men to initiation school and vowed to do so every year, with or without Kgosi’s blessings. This past weekend, the association held a graduation ceremony at Goo-Ntšwa Kgotla to welcome back 13 women who had gone for Bojale a month ago.It was at this event that Moragi, a respected elder and advisor of the association, made it publicly known that they were itching for a change of leadership in Gamalete. He said the time has come for them to get what is rightfully theirs as people of Ntlha-ya-Godimo. They want the royal throne, and the place where the tribe's main Kgotla lies not the rightful one by history, he said..“Golo kwa ga se ko Kgosing, ga ise e nne ko Kgosing. Go bidiwa ko Ntlha-ya-Tlase, Kgosing ke ha,” he said.Moragi has advised people of his ward to make their intentions clear soon, saying immediately after Independence Day festivities slated for the end of the month, Goo-Ntšwa ward people should proceed to select their preferred paramount chief among themselves. The elderly man said they will not agree to have the chosen person reduced to a mere headman. They will push until they fully take over.“Do not be intimidated as long as I am here, your elder and advisor, we will knock on all doors to get what we want. We will engage lawyers if we must. We will present our preferred KgosiKgolo to them, we will not be led by a chief from Ntlha-Ya-Tlase.”Moragi confirmed that what caused the big fallout between them and Kgosi Seboko was her refusal to cooperate when they asked her to allow them to go to Bogwera.A rift started leading to the village of Ga-Malete splitting into two factions, those in support of Kgosikgolo and the pro-Moragi and company group. The matter even reached the courts of law and even though Moragi and team’s application was dismissed for lack of urgency, they decided to go ahead with Bogwera. He said the reasons given by Kgosi back then were not satisfactory and they had to fight with everything in their power to get their way. They later went to Bogwera against her will and this is why he (Moragi) advised that theregiment be named Mayakathata. He explained that the reason why the Maphalaola-a-Pitse Association was formed was to protect themselves from being harassed and threatened with jail.
