Disband the DIS, set up a new intelligence arm

President of Botswana Federation of Public Private and Parastatal Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU), Johannes Tshukudu has blamed the problems that plague Batswana on the failure of the national leadership to call out the Directorate of Intelligence (DIS) on their wrongdoings.Tshukudu said that the nation is in a crisis because national leaders like President Masisi have been silent when the DIS wreaked havoc across the country.Tshukudu suspects that the real issue may be that President Masisi may not be taking heed of the advice given to him or those who advise him are the ones misleading him.Tshukudu likens the DIS to an irresponsible head prefect who meddles in every one’s business.He cites that the intelligence organisation is often meddling in almost every sector of the country's economy, including even in areas such as the judiciary, water tenders and any other thing that does not have anything to do with what they are supposed to be doing.He notes that the DIS has made itself chief above all and this has led them to not consider the laws of the nation.Giving an example with the newly-purchased Tautona Lodge, he notes that there was no reason why the lodge should be bought for that much money but because of the crisis of leadership, millions of Pulas were spent.He questions Masisi’s credibility as he always falls into the snares of the DIS over and over again, a problem which stalls development in the country.The lack of results from the DIS and the crises it has put this nation into warrants that the organisation be disbanded.Tshukudu says that the nation continues to lose money because of the carelessness of the leaders in trusting the DIS to make decisions on issues of national importance.He says that it is risky for the nation to go without a commissioner of Police, questioning the logic of suspending Keabetswe Makgophe indefinitely whilst paying him.Speaking to The Midweek Sun, Tshukudu said that they will write to the President to disband the DIS and set up another intelligence agency which will serve the interests of the nation.He said if the President of the nation does not take their matter seriously they will go to the courts of law.
