It was a dream come true for 70 boys and girls from Makgori village and Jwaneng town on Saturday when Dare To Dream hosted them for scenic flights over Gaborone.

This was the organisation's motivation for the children, especially girls to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics and Entrepreneurship (STEAME).

Dare to Dream Foundation is led by one of the first female military pilots in Botswana, Captain Kgomotso Phatsima. She told The Midweek Sun that this time around they targeted both young boys and girls to enrol in Science and Technology Engineering and Mathematics. She emphasized that the ‘Fly For Steam Southern Africa Initiative' is set to inspire and shape the future of young boys and girls in Botswana. The initiative was founded with a compelling mission to inspire the next generation, with a particular focus on empowering the girl child.

“This groundbreaking initiative is dedicated to igniting dreams, fostering a love for aviation and exploration, and equipping young minds with the skills and motivation they need to succeed in the dynamic fields of STEAME. Our goal is to provide a unique perspective of the world from above, impart practical skills, and motivate participants to pursue their dreams with unwavering determination,” she said.

Following the scenic flight around Gaborone, the students will be part of their robotics and coding exercise at Botswana Digital and Innovation Hub workshop.

This event happened at the back of the recent International Day of the Girl Child that took place at Avani in Gaborone. Girls from different senior schools in Botswana had an opportunity to explore different organizations last week on a Take a Girl Child to work initiative organized by UNFPA and UNICEF Botswana.

The girls came from Madiba, Molefhi and Goodhope Senior Schools. Lucara Botswana had partnered with UNICEF Botswana to commemorate the day and had the honour of hosting two bright young girls at their Corporate Office. The girls had the opportunity to shadow Lucara Botswana Managing Director Naseem Lahri, CFO Nametsegang Poloko-Nthake, Sales and Operations Manager Stephen Kgobe and other departments for the day.
