Basebi Semela (25) of Morokologadi ward, Malolwane village, will be arraigned before court this week for the murder of his girlfriend, Gofaone Seleke (27).Reports say on Saturday morning, passers-by found Seleke lying motionless on the ground at Pelotshetlha lands near Mabalane village. Her clothes were soiled, bloodied and dusty, indicating a possible scuffle. While still there trying to establish what could have happened, Semela allegedly arrived at the scene with intentions of waking up Seleke and dressing her up in clothes he had brought her. When questioned, Semela inadvertently implicated himself when he shared that he had been with Seleke the previous night at an entertainment joint, and they left in the morning with intentions of going home.It appears when he tried to convince his lover to go home with him that morning, she showed reluctance at first, although she would finally agree that they go together. On their way home, the accused is said to have begun asking the deceased why she had earlier shown signs of not wanting to go home with him. A scuffle ensued from their verbal exchange, leading to the accused allegedly taking out a knife and repeatedly stabbing the woman all over her body. Not realising the extent of his actions, Semela then left the woman after seeing how soaked in blood her clothes were and proceeded to their home to get her fresh clothes. When he returned, he found Seleke surrounded by people, and it was only then that he realised that he might have killed her.Confirming the case, Superintendent Mmoloki Mogale of Mmathubudukwane Police Station said they do have a case involving the death of a young lady from Ntshinoge ward, Mochudi.Mogale said the suspect in the matter is her lover, and early investigations suggest that they had been living together at Pelotshetlha lands.“We are worried about cases which involve the use of a knife. It seems many people around this area go around carrying knives, and any minor differences, they are quick to spill blood.“We are cautioning members of the community to stop walking around with such dangerous weapons. Very soon, the police will begin a stop and search operation, and anybody found in possession of such items without a valid reason will face the music,” Mogale warned.
