The newly-elected President of Botswana Movement Democracy (BMD), Reverend Thuso Tiego said that the party is offering Batswana a chance to choose a party that will steer the nation to better grounds.
Speaking at his first media engagement since he ascended to the helm of the party, Tiego said the new BMD will bring about positive transformation and change by advocating and mobilising for political participation, civil liberties, transparency and accountability in the nation.
Rev Tiego said that the party will succeed where other political parties have failed, noting that BMD has taken a new form and will work towards attaining state power in 2024.
He said that their desire as the new leadership is to grow the party. He however could not confirm if the party would join forces with other parties in their attempt to get state power. He added that they are not under any pressure to join any political party.
Rev Tiego noted that unlike other parties that say things and do not deliver, BMD will strive to offer a more practical solution to the nation.
“The BDP has in the past taken some of our policies and implemented them,” Rev Tiego said, adding that this is evidence that the party has something concrete to offer the people of Botswana.
Rev Tiego said that his ascension to the presidency of the BMD was an act of God as he had once dreamt of the party. To his surprise some representatives of the BMD then approached him and asked if he would be interested in contesting for the BMD presidency.
At the BMD national congress, Rev Tiego was unopposed and this in his view indicates that the party welcomed him in unison.
Moreover, Rev Tiego said that it is a normal thing for clergymen to join politics, as with the likes of religious leaders like Rev Dr Seakgosing, Pastor Biggie Butale, Rev Dr Prince Dibeela, among others.
“The new BMD will offer Batswana a vision not politics and petty politics will not take Batswana anywhere,” Rev Tiego said, adding that people should not be skeptical about them, as a revolution often comes through ordinary people.
He added that politicians of this nation have not offered the nation any concrete solution to their problems.
