WITHOUT A TRACE

Eighty-seven (87) people have already been reported missing in Botswana between January 1 and January 31, 2025. This is against 160 people who went missing in 2024, Minister for State President, Moeti Mohwasa announced in his public and security press briefing on Tuesday.

He attributed many of these cases to individuals who visit family, friends, or guardians in other places without notifying their loved ones, leading to concerns and subsequent reports.

Mohwasa urged individuals who are aware that police are looking for them to make contact with authorities promptly, to help save valuable time and resources in the search effort.

He mentioned that while missing persons’ cases have been reported across various regions, areas such as Rakops, Maun, Bokspits, and Palapye have seen a higher number of incidents.

The Minister also warned against the spread of misinformation on social media platforms, particularly Facebook, where some individuals have been sharing false information about missing persons. He said that this leads to public confusion and defamation of innocent people.

He advised citizens to report missing persons’ cases to their village chiefs or local authorities to ensure that proper procedures are followed and resources are used effectively in the search efforts.
