A 20-year-old Zimbabwean national, Methulesi Moyo appeared before Extension 2 Magistrate Court on Monday accused of killing his friend, Fortune Sibanda in Modipane last week.

Representing the state, Sub Inspector Elsie Kgaodi said their investigations are still at initial stages and pleaded with court to remand Moyo in custody.

Kgaodi also said the accused person is a foreigner and does not have legal travelling papers and therefore he is a flight risk.

Magistrate Kamogelo Mmesi remanded the accused in custody because he does not have travelling documents. Moyo will return to court on August 28th for a status hearing.

Confirming the incident, Tlokweng Police Station Commander, Unoziba Rari said they arrested the accused after they were tipped off that Moyo might be the one who allegedly killed Sibanda.

According to Rari, they arrested the suspect last Wednesday, two days after he had murdered his friend, further noting that he showed the police where he had dug a hole and buried the corpse.

Rari noted that both the accused and the deceased were working at Segakwana lands near Modipane Village.

“It appears that the two had an agreement in which the accused borrowed his friend money which he was supposed to pay back at the end of the month but Sibanda failed to pay back at the agreed time.

“The accused seemed to have attacked and killed the deceased after the misunderstanding,” Rari said.

According to Rari, they have so far arrested two employers of both the deceased and the accused for hiring illegal immigrants and for hiring them without proper working papers.

Rari urged members of the public to always hire people who have legal immigration papers, as well as valid working permits to avoid getting on the wrong side of the law.
