A suspect in the case in which a 14-year-old girl was raped and impregnated in Maunatlala Village near Palapye is still at large.

Confirming the incident, Officer Commanding No. 2 District, Paul Oketsang said they received a report from the girl’s parents who came to report after the minor told them about the pregnancy. According to Oketsang, the victim was raped by the suspect in April 2024 when she was walking home alone from her friend’s house, where she had gone to plait her hair.

“It appears the victim met the suspect on the road and he grabbed and dragged her to his house where he raped her. The perpetrator allegedly threatened that if she tells anyone, he would kill her," Oketsang said, adding that it appears that the girl kept quiet and did not tell her parents, as she was scared of being killed, until she opened up to her aunt recently following a talk at her school about teenage pregnancies .

Oketsang urged parents to always protect their children and know their whereabouts at all times, adding that this will prevent such incidents. He also advised parents to bond with their children so that children can open up when they are experiencing challenges in their lives.
