Adds five more categories for this year
Glitz Awards of BW Celebs is on a mission to promote local celebrities and embrace them to a point where they are recognized as it should be.
This past weekend, the management of these glamorous awards hosted a training workshop for their staff members to guide them as they work on unearthing talent and recognizing those who deserve to be celebrated. The purpose of the workshop was defined to sharpen and empower staff members of this project according to founder/director of the awards, Nkgopolang Tlhomelang.
Deputy Mayor of Gaborone Town Council, Oduetse Tautona who was present at the training workshop applauded Glitz Awards' work and said it could change the creatives industry in Botswana. He emphasized that Botswana celebrities deserve a space of recognition. "Gaborone City Council desire to utilize the opportunistic platform created by Glitz Awards. This is a calendar year that places Gaborone as a tourism hub and a destination of choice.
There are currently monuments such as Gaborone Park and entertainment places that create employment and night life for Batswana. Glitz Awards can attract multitudes of tourists, both locally and internationally," said Tautona urging local companies to use their own celebrities to form part of their marketing strategies."They have already positioned themselves as an alternative marketing tool and have a rich knowledge on market catchment areas and have a large following that can attract business to any entity," said Tautona.
Executive Chairman at Glitz Awards, Dickson Motse Gothaang highlited that the workshop was meant to build trust with their stakeholders in order to carry the 2023 Glitz Awards forward."We want our staff members to work freely with an aim to achieve best results, so we had to also teach them about social connection, to enable us to work as one big family, to also attract new talent that cannot be unearthed or recognized by other awards in Botswana; to retain and improve performance in one's field as well as help maintain a psychological contract in the mindset of our stakeholders, among other objectives," Gothaang told BG Style. He emphasized that Glitz Awards boasts of glamorous taste to upscale the celebrity world in Botswana.
He explained that since they started these awards last year, they have learnt a lot and are willing to change this year as the plan is to grow bigger and better. They have so far increased the number of category awards from 35 to 40. Tlhomelang added that they really want the awards to be prestigeous and aim at becoming ISO 9000 certified soon. They also account for corporate governance which he says would allow them to be as transparent as possible as corporate governance is about dealing with the wealth of a company at an international level, which is why they believe that employee recognition is important and opted for the workshop.
Glitz Awards have also to demysify the idea that being a celebrity in Botswana is associated with being broke.
Gothaang said their observation is that there is so much talent to be recognized around the country and not only in the city, and so as a result they wish to embark on a national search to honor even unknown celebrities and make them known.
They are glad to be working with legends such as Steven Thapelo Kgosi Leburu, known for many of his acting roles on the local TV screens. Leburu noted that Botswana celebrities need recognition and resources to make Botswana a better place when it comes to performing better in terms of creatives.
He warned that, if this is not attended to a lot of good people within the industry would only be recognized internationally. He mentioned legendary creatives like Connie Ferguson and Norman Moloi, who are Batswana but found a better market in the neighboring South Africa to share their art. Glitz Awards have already recognised some legends within the industry. Kgomotso Tshwenyego, better known as Ausi Kgomotso was awarded a certificate in recognition of her creative skills for the longest time within the industry.
She appreciated the gesture and said it is not very often that older people within the industry get recognised. Elsie Ntshonono, better known as Beauty was also awarded a certificate as well as Fifi Afrika. Gothaang said this was just a way of showing what they mean, by recognizing the celebrities.
