The count down to the 71st Miss World beauty pageant has started. In less than a month, 120 aspiring beauty queens from across the world, including Botswana, will jet off to Mumbai, India where they will fight tooth and nail to get the elusive place in the top ranking of the pageant.
Botswana is represented by Lesego Chombo, and hopes are high that Chombo will continue to set the stage and the Miss World platform ablaze with her performance, keeping up with previous queens who have done amazingly well at the pageant. Earlier this week, Chombo was said to be in South Africa where she is said to be busy with part of her preparations for the big stage. But as the clock is ticking, observers are getting uneasy with how it appears that somewhere it appears like this year Miss World organisers are slow in their preparations, and sharing of information on both social media and their website.
This is a first in the history of the competition. And the development might possibly affect voting on the Mobstar app, which is said to commence soon. Previously, seeing as all of the 120 Miss World queens have been crowned, the profiles of these queens would have been shared on the official Miss World official website. But this year it is a different story, countless searches, and refreshing the page to see what information will come up is proving fruitless. What is more intriguing is how even the popular websites such as Missology, which are best known for predicting the results, don't have any latest news regarding Miss World. However, a press release from the organisers dated January 18th has attempted to give an update about what viewers can look forward to.
It starts off by sharing how this is a big milestone for India, having last hosted the pageant 28 years ago, as well as the fact that EndemolShine India has been appointed the producers of the upcoming event. The press release gives an update about dates, highlights as well as venues. Regarding the dates, the festivities will start off on February 20th with The Opening Ceremony) and 'India Welcomes the World Gala)' to be hosted by the India Tourism Development Corporation. The event will be held at the Hotel Ashok in New Delhi.
