The Kleyhan’s Home in Sentlhane is the perfect venue for the upcoming second edition of the Ecotherapy Experience. The two-day event will be held on August 26th-27th. Guests can expect to be treated to a platform where they can immerse themselves in nature, relax, and grow. They will also get to experience and learn all about how nature enables them to heal and find happiness. The package for the two-day event costs P1850, inclusive of accommodation, three scrumptious meals, a journal to take home, as well as a visit to a local cut flower farm.
Speaking in an interview with the event organiser, Julia Farmer, she tells this publication that Ecotherapy focuses on connecting with nature in order to heal and find happiness. She also states that everyone can benefit by taking time out to immerse themselves in nature. A certified Eco Therapist, she also explains that Eco therapy is now also being used to help people with mental illness such as dementia, as well as to rehabilitate those who have committed crime. “Recent research has shown that disconnection from nature is a factor in high stress levels and in both mental and physical illness.
A lot of studies are being done on this method of healing as it has no side effects, and our disconnection from nature is getting more severe not just because of urbanisation but largely due to the focus on technology instead of experiencing nature,” explains Farmer. She further points out that participants will be staying in a beautiful environment which will enable them to easily connect with nature. Furthermore, as an Eco therapy Guide, she will lead them on a series of activities which will not only help them to connect with nature but even with their own soul. “One of the activities that they can look forward to is a visit to a local cut Flower farm and I will also be conducting ground breaking meditation.
After each activity, there will be an opportunity to share and learn from each other,” she notes, Painting a picture of some of the highlights that guests can expect, she elaborates that for starters, the Kleyham's Home in Sentlhane is situated not too far from Gaborone but far enough to allow participants to submerge themselves in the freshness and tranquillity of the countryside. “The accommodation is very beautiful and very comfortable. The hostess, Linda and her staff do their utmost to ensure participants have a relaxed and enjoyable stay, with healthy food and tasty meals provided,” says Farmer.
At the end of the event, she wants participants to leave the event feeling rejuvenated, relaxed and happy. She also shares that the guests will be equipped with the tools to enable them to connect with nature whenever they wish. They will also have a journal which they can use to record their experiences in nature, and can use it to reflect on the retreat and can continue to use it, she says. As for what she has in the pipeline, she is hoping to host one more retreat, as well as another event which will be open to men only, as well as one targeting families and children, which might possibly be held at King Fisher Farm in Notwane. For those who will get to book by August 21st, she has a bonus treat in store for them which includes the e-book of Growing Happiness, as well as a free chair massage courtesy of Yvette.
