Lesego ready for the world crown
Miss World-Botswana, Lesego Chombo exudes an aura perfectly suited for the Miss World stage.
Brimming with excitement and radiating energy, Chombo has eagerly awaited this opportunity for months, poised to showcase what Botswana has to offer to the world.
In a journey six years in the making, she has dedicated countless hours over the past few months, tirelessly preparing herself for the 71st Miss World pageant. Departing Botswana on February 17th, Chombo will join nearly 120 hopeful queens from around the globe in India, where the Miss World pageant will unfold over three weeks. Country representatives will vie for the coveted Miss World title and sash.
Driven by the desire to make her country proud, Chombo follows in the footsteps of her predecessor, Palesa Molefe, who captivated the world. Rather than feeling burdened by comparisons, Chombo sees it as an opportunity to build on Molefe's success. As the countdown to the competition intensifies, she is confident that Botswana's offering will surprise the world, emphasising, "I am walking in my own shoes."
In an interview, Chombo reflects on how the December postponement of the pageant provided her and the organizers ample time to refine her preparations. Every detail of her wardrobe, from attire to makeup to accessories, has been meticulously arranged. She eagerly anticipates the final fitting of her mysterious gown for the finale, a creation by Nura Bloom, a brand she trusts. Additionally, she has a backup gown prepared, ensuring she is fully prepared for any eventuality.
For her Beauty with a Purpose fast-track event, Chombo has submitted her Genesis Project, which reached out to nearly 2000 children and their guardians, teachers, and parents across various communities. The project aims to create an enabling environment for the development of economically disadvantaged children by equipping parents with essential skills and behavioral attributes to promote their children's emotional, social, and cognitive well-being. It also introduces children to life skills, including art and music, enriching their lives beyond traditional education. Chombo plans to launch the Lesego Chombo Foundation shortly, ensuring the continuation of the project beyond her reign in March.
