An 18-year-old man accused of the murder of a 20-year-old man has been remanded in custody by Gumare Magistrate Kedikilwe Johnson.

Confirming the incident, Gumare Station Commander Chenamo Orateng told this publication that they received a report on Saturday at around 02:00am that a man has been murdered with a sharp object at Legonono ward in Gumare Village.

According to Orateng, they rushed to the scene and rushed the victim to Gumare Primary Hospital where he was certified dead.

Orateng said it appears that the deceased had a misunderstanding with the accused, as well as other two suspects who are still at large.

He said the accused who appeared before Gumare Magistrate Court on Monday will be remanded in custody pending investigations and will appear for status hearing on the 12th of March 2024.

Orateng said this is the first murder incident in his policing area this year. He urged the public to always seek innervations whenever encountering differences with other people.

Gumare is a rural village located in the North-West District of Botswana, near the Okavango Delta with a total population of 11,572 people.
