Life’s uncertainties and challenges often bring the best out of people. When Matlhale Letsweletse, an enterprising Maun native lost his job as a travel agent in mobile safari back in 2022, it never crossed his mind that this was perhaps a blessing in disguise. That was just after the country, especially the tourism and travel industry, was just emerging from the impact of Covid 19.
That is when he decided to start a tour and travel business called Sparkling Insights Travel & Tours, right in the heart of the tourism town of Maun. Letsweletse used his experience of working in the safari industry, to offer cutting edge services in areas such as organising tours and travel in Botswana and neighbouring countries, boat cruises, cultural events among others. The business was self-financed, he disclosed. The business currently employs four people and is hoping to hire more as the business grows.
The travel and tours industry is highly competitive with well established brands competing for the same clients, often elbowing out emerging ones. However, Letsweletse told The Midweek Sun that he has been able to thrive as the business is closer to the Okavango Delta where there is high value spending in the scenic views of fauna of the world-renowned delta. This proximity to the delta, makes it cheaper for his clients. Sparkling Insights’ proximity to countries such as Namibia, also helps.
They are able to organise cost effective tour trips to such countries, especially during Holidays. In fact, they are organising a trip to Swakopmund, Namibia this coming July holidays. To attract customers to his side, Letsweletse’s company, ensures provision of quality services, which is key to retaining clients. As things stand, the company uses social media platforms such as Facebook to advertise its services. Soon the company will launch a user-friendly website for existing and potential clients to access its travel and tours packages and other services. Letsweletse said the company believes in strategic partnerships, especially in marketing, which enhances business growth and sustainability. In the future, Sparkling Insights plans to take its clients to African areas with heart stopping beauty such as Zanzibar, Mozambique, Lesotho, among others.
