Thabied to fly Botswana flag high at Accra Fashion Week

Local fashion designer, Thabiso Dibeela of Thabied creations will become the first local designer to grace the esteemed Accra Fashion Week 2017 slated for October 3-8 2017. The fashion show is tipped to be a special one, and will be different from any other event staged by the organisers. Dibeela is amongst several celebrated designers who will be part of Ghana’s 60th independence celebration.

The special celebration is slated to take place at the International Fair Centre, LA, Accra. and will see designers from countries that include Kenya, Belgium, France, and Botswana and more are expected to come on board as the big day nears. According to styleafrique.com, new brands at the event include Magushi Doll (Zambia), Zizi Africa (Kenya), The Jireh Couture (Belgium), Alia Bare (Niger), Nacho Designs by Chuks (Nigeria) as well as ThabieD. The new comers are joining previous designers that include Mark Johnson (UK), Jants Collection, Bri Wireduah, Afre Anko and many more.

Speaking in an interview with Style on Tuesday, she explains that it was high time that local designers took their craft outside the country and showcased the talent that the country has. She also says that she took a leap of faith and decided to approach the organisers of the event. She says that being part of the event did not come easy, as she had to convince and really show what her brand was all about to the organizers.

“It took a lot of convincing before they agreed. I had to explain myself to them about what I do,” she says adding that the organisers were picky about who they accepted into the event, and wanted established brands.
She also says that now it was up to her to convince them that they made the right decision, and will go all out to meet their strict requirements.

Dibeela also explains that one of the products that she wanted to showcase at the event was Leteisi, which they don’t know, as well as what Botswana can offer them.  “They are expecting me to showcase what Thabied is all about,” she says. She also highlights that what makes this fashion show special is the fact that buyers from all over the world will be in attendance.

She says that this will give her the perfect opportunity to market and sell her brand. “This event has opened doors for many designers across Africa,” she notes.
