Scarlet Valour breathes new life into shoes

Rutendo Kapito did what many successful and wealthy entrepreneurs always advise… she turned her passion into a business. Kapito is the owner of Scarlet Valour, a Christian shoe line, which supplies shoes for all occasions to people from all walks of life.
But these are not just average shoes, as they are personalised with an inscribed Bible verse on the sole. Kapito says that she did this in order to bring personality to the shoes, and as a Christian she felt quotes from the Bible would be fitting, as they would remind people about the many plans that God has for his people.

The line has four products that include the wedding line, which caters for brides and bridesmaids. The inscription on the bride’s shoes is, “I do.” Then there is the Cosmo line, which has different kinds of fashionable shoes to go anywhere, anytime. The family line boasts the inscription, “You, me, us.’ Kapito explains it as thus: “It stems from the desire for couples who would want to do family photo shoots or go somewhere together wearing matching outfits, including shoes. The last of the lines is the Wamambo line which when translated into English means ‘Of the King.’ Of all the lines, this is the one which has an African royal eel to it; print has served as an inspiration for the design. Kapito says that the shoe line range is dedicated to style and comfort. “Scarlet Valour is about being comfortable while wearing shoes of a great quality,” she says.
Kapito recalls that as a shoe lover, she always bought many shoes to feed her penchant for them, but decided to turn her passion into a viable money-making enterprise. But it was not a walk in the park to get the business off the ground as she faced a few challenges when she started out in business, but this was a lesson for her, as she identified the best supplier for her customers. Kapito goes all out to please her clients. “When a person has a specific shoe in mind, they contact me and I in turn source out the shoes from her supplier. Those who want specific designs can give me the designs that they have in mind and I will take it from there,” she says.
