Opera music concert at GICC

Mowana Opera Ensemble has collaborated with SA Chamber Orchestra to stage an Opera Music Concert on August 27th at the glittering Grand Palm’s Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC).

Senior Coordinator Killer Modiba of Exact Group Entertainment who are event organisers and marketers, told BG Style that the concert will showcase the works of Italian Classical music composer, Antonio Vivaldi entitled ‘Gloria’.

A work usually comprises an Aria, which are plays, but in this instance the repertoire will be performed by 20 local soloists selected from various choirs to sing soprano, alto, tenor and bass voices.

Modiba says that most of Vivaldo’s Gloria works are choruses.

Gloria is a 30 minute production comprising 12 songs – Gloria (Chorus); Et in terra pax (Chorus); Laudamus te (Sopranos I and II); Gratias agimus tibi (Chorus); Propter magnam gloriam (Chorus); Domine Deus (Soprano); Domine, Fili unigenite (Chorus); Domine Deus, Agnus Dei (Contralto and Chorus); Qui tollis peccata mundi (Chorus); Qui sedes ad dexteram Patris (Contralto) and Quoniam tu solus sanctus (Chorus).

Botswana Choral Music Association’s National Treasurer Oarabile Bafitlhile who accompanied Modiba added that before beginning with Vivaldi’s work, the soloists will perform their own solo pieces which will be accompanied by a piano played by a professional pianist.

Bafithile explained that it is very expensive to bring a professional Orchestra accompaniment into the country. He said this concert will however serve to prove to Opera enthusiasts that Batswana are capable of hosting shows of such magnitude.

The event is sponsored by Grand Palm, IDM and Duma FM and will run from 2PM to 4PM on Sunday August 27th.

Tickets are sold at Compu-tickets and Grand Palm for P300 a ticket.
