Miss Botswana crowning on Sep 28

The road to unearthing the next Miss Botswana queen is in full swing. This past Saturday and Sunday, close to 63 young hopefuls made their way to the Avani Gaborone Hotel for auditions that were held over two days.

The Gaborone leg of auditions follows the Maun and Francistown auditions. From the three auditions, organisers will select the top 30 who will be closer to realising their dream of being crowned the most beautiful woman in the land by the outgoing Miss Botswana Thata Kenosi on September 28th.

Miss Botswana will represent the country at the 67th Miss World beauty pageant slated to take place on November 18th at the Crown of Beauty Theatre, in Sanya, China PR. The reigning Miss World, Stephanie Del Valle of Puerto Rico will crown her successor. The pageant will see close to 120 queens from across the world representing their respective countries at the pageant.

Amongst the young hopefuls was Kelebogile Bakoko, 18. Standing at 1.67 m, the 1st year Business Administration and Marketing student at University of Botswana was all excited about the prospects of winning the big crown. Bakoko has always envisioned herself entering the beauty pageant, and believes that she is the right candidate for this job.

“I wish to inspire other young girls that they should pursue their dreams. I am especially more passionate about changing the lives of orphans,” she says.

Another young hopeful, Phio Ntloyakhumo, 25, hails from Molepolole and works as a Software Developer for an IT company. Like other aspiring hopefuls, she believes that she has the right traits that will set her apart from other hopefuls and that she can make a better queen.

“I am a passionate young woman who wishes to see our country going far” she says. She wishes to empower others and give them a new lease in life.

Speaking in an interview with one Dorcus Thobega from Botswana Council of Women, she reveals that they were happy with the quality of girls who came through for the auditions.

She says that in the coming days they will release the names of those who will make it through to the Top 30. “They will go for bootcamp in the first week of September,” she says adding that they will then cut them to top 12.
