Masa Fashion Show 2017 partners with industry’s gurus

Internationally renowned, Jan Malan of Umzingeli Productions has promised to put together a one of a kind fashion show experience that has never been seen in Botswana. 

Malan, a well known producer across the world and his company has been tasked with putting together a one of a kind fashion show for the annual Masa Fashion Show 2017.  The event will take place on October 21st and tickets for the extravaganza are on sale for P400 (general tickets) and P1500 (VIP). 

Organisers have promised fashion enthusiasts a unique event that has never been showcased locally before with a totally different set-up minus the traditional straight ramp. 

Speaking at a media briefing Saturday afternoon at Masa Square Hotel, Malan said it was great to be back in the country, and that he has had a great relationship with Botswana. “For a few years, Botswana has escaped us,” he said. 

Touching on what fashion lovers can expect next month, he said that his company specialises in putting together unique events and that they were planning to do the same thing for the upcoming event. “Expect to be surprised and expect the unexpected. We will be doing something that is on another level,” he promised. 

Announcing the partnership with Malan was the Masa Square Hotel Sales & Marketing Manager, Neo Nkele. Speaking during the briefing, she explained that Malan’s background dates back to as early as 1985. She said Malan’s momentous work, energy and positivity towards the industry has seen him staging high profile productions in 20 countries over four continents. 

“His charisma, professionalism and experience in the fashion and entertainment industries made him the perfect partner for us to choose to lead the production of the Masa Fashion Show, which has evidently gained a prominent place in the Botswana entertainment calendar. And we are delighted to have Malan with us on this campaign,” she explained.

She said the hotel has also partnered with Ngwao Brand Architects and Audiotech (technical and sound production team) who will work alongside Malan. These two local greats bring to the table an impressive portfolio spanning over many years in the corporate and entertainment spaces, having been part-and-parcel of some of Botswana’s biggest event productions. 

Other partners include Tumelo Nkwe and Tapiwa Preston (as model casting consultants) for the Masa Fashion Show 2017.  Prior to the fashion show, the hotel has been running a series of build-up events including the Fashion Mentorship Programme and the Masa Square Hotel Fashion Mentorship Talk Shop Series. 

The Mentorship programme has paired established fashion designers and upcoming designers. The mentors are as follows: Lame Chilume of Switch Couture BW, Mummy Molapo of Fetish Culture, Tlamo Mosinyi of Bondphill, Kaone Moremong of House of Kay, Lesedi Matlapeng of Kefseddy Designs, Natasha Selelo of Tasha Creationz, Dikatso Motlapele & Anita Molosiwa of Eccentric Style Loft, Candida & Wedu Montsho of DihDah, Thabiso Dibeela of Thabie D Originals, Tankiso Mathware of Priestly, Botho Chalebgwa of Botocy and Delayna Scott of Delayna Scott designs. 

The following are the mentees: • Boikanyo Molale, Thabiso Makwate, Katlego Moatshe, Pamela Ntshwarang, Lerang Keabile, Gomotsegang Dipuo, Tshepiso Abdulla, Ratanang Morontshe, Seatla Khutlo, Katlego Sengate, Temo Mpudi and Mpho Chepete. 

The Masa Fashion Show campaign is held under the theme: Working together to Build Botswana’s Creative Industry. The Minister of Investment, Trade & Industry, Vincent Seretse, launched it in February.
