Improve your core physique through Pilates

A Core Pilates Fitness Retreat is slated to take place on May 6th at the Mokolodi Nature Reserve. The event promises a day of core strengthening and improving flexibility as well as learning all about Pilates. Pilates, one of the many physical fitness exercises is more biased towards inflicting as little pain as possible in order to get desired results. It was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, which emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement.

Event organiser, Bupelo Moalusi explains that they opted for Mokolodi as a venue as they wanted a place outside the city, and which was close to nature as possible. They also took into account the fact that they wanted a venue that was easily accessible. We want the participants to experience nature while learning and taking part in the retreat, she says.

She also notes that during the one-day event, participants will learn about Pilates, its principles and benefits. Even though it is an old exercise form not everybody appreciates it, and what it is all about, she says.
During the day, attendants will also be treated to Yoga and massage sessions, as well as healthy meals and snacks.

Moalusi currently runs a programme that offers one-on-one sessions for her clients, and she usually goes to their homes to conduct the exercises. She received a qualification in Pilate›s from BASI in South Africa, and also undertook a course that allows her to work with pregnant women.

She explains that she creates programmes based on her clients’ needs. For example, she knows that when it comes to working with a pregnant woman, there are things that can be done and those that can’t be done. She further says one of the most common issues affecting pregnant women is lower back problem, so she therefore gives them exercises that deal with this problem. They are also likely to have swollen feet, so I give them exercises that improve circulation in the whole body, she explains. The fee for the retreat is P750 for all the activities and meals.
