Grueling Y-Care Charitable Trust Midnight walk done & dusted
This is one of the toughest walks because participants walk from sunset throughout the night from Mosu Village all the way to Kubu Island in Makgadikgadi Pans.
The first night and second night total walking distance is 46.5 km each making a total walking distance of 93km. What makes it tough is that at those hours the mind and body are used to being asleep.
Since the establishment of Y-Care Charitable Trust 15 years ago, a total amount of P5million has been donated to different charity organisations.
Y Care started with an inspiring dream to walk across the Makgadikgadi Pans to raise funds for charity. As a patron of Life Line, Dr Nomsa Mbere experienced the challenges of raising donor money for operational costs, a challenge experienced by most charitable organisations, as donors tend to have a preference for donating fund projects and buildings.
Succeeding to bring on board like-minded individuals with extensive knowledge of the pans, eagerness to experience an invigorating challenge and tremendous support staff, the first Makgadikgadi Pans walk took place in 2003.
