Desert Winter Bush Walk expected to be bigger and better

Organisers of the annual Desert  Bush Walk - Winter 2017 are working around the clock to deliver a one of a kind event this year. The third edition of the event pencilled to take place on July 29th in Jwaneng, is bringing with it some exciting developments for those who have already secured their tickets.

Time is running out for those who wish to pledge their support through purchasing of tickets, as well as corporate companies who wish to sponsor the event. Speaking in an interview, one of the organisers Archibald Ngakayagae revealed that one of the new additions to look forward to this year is the ‘Business Spot at 15 kilometres.’ He says that the The Spot is currently up for grabs by any company that wishes to sell its unique services during the walk. He says that companies can snatch this spot at a total value of P35 000.00.

Elaborating how the Spot will work, he says that this will be a dedicated water point at the 15KM mark that happens to be the halfway mark for the 30KM finish line. “Participants will be held for at least an hour for refreshments, aerobics and entertainment,” he says.

He also says that it will be up to the lucky company that will secure this spot on how they wish to use this Spot. For example, they can use to promote and their sell their products as well as network with close to 2000 participants who are expected to be part of the event including locals as well as those from Lesotho and South Africa.

Highlighting other developments, he says that participants can look forward to an Aerobathon and Spinning on Saturday evening. This session is powered by Shakes Fitness Centre in collaboration with Racquets Aerobics Club. This session is only available to those who took part in the 30KM leg of the walk.

Ngakayagae points out that on Saturday evening, walkers who wish to spend the night in Jwaneng can relax and unwind at an After party that is being organised by Davebouy Wors. All proceeds from the after party go to CSI Concepts Foundation. As for accommodation, he explains that they have partnered with Cresta Lodge (who are giving out a 40 percent discount to all non Cresta card holders) as well as Mokala Lodge (who have come up with a flat rate for the walkers). For those who want a different sort of accommodation, they can camp at Dladleng Amusement Park and Campsite either with their own equipment or hire them from the centre. And as for those who are travelling from Gaborone-Jwaneng, there is free transport to and from Jwaneng.

The Desert Bush Walk-Winter is organised by CSI-Concepts FOUNDATION working in collaboration with The Desert Bush Walk local organising committee-LOC (team of volunteers based in Jwaneng). The annual event attracts participants from different parts of the country as well as from neighbouring countries.

Driven by the Vision 2016 pillars of a compassionate and caring nation as well as that of being an Educated and Informed nation, sponsors and participants who will be part of the event will also support the Ministry of Education’s initiative of ‘Adopt a School’. Earlier this year, they donated P150 000 worth of equipment to the Mabutsane-Jwaneng sub-district to benefit 19 schools in the area, as well as P10 000 to New Xanagas Primary School. Sese Primary School was a beneficiary in 2014 through the construction of a creative learning centre that comprised a library and carpentry laboratory.
