Airport Junction Mall celebrates 5 years in style

Airport Junction Mall treated its tenants and patrons to a 5th anniversary celebration fit for a king this past Saturday (April 29).

Festivities to mark the jovial 5th anniversary birthday party included a family fun-day for tenants and customers featuring Metro FM Breakfast show host, Thato Sikwane popularly known as DJ Fresh who serenaded customers with his pristine deejaying skills. Fresh had arrived in the country on Friday afternoon playing to a packed to capacity Rhapsody’s restaurant on the same night where Khumo Property Asset Management had booked him as part of the 5th anniversary celebrations activation.

The packed to capacity Rhapsody’s restaurant who were co-sponsoring the event was sold out on the night courtesy of the renowned House music deejay who signaled a fun-filled weekend for the entire celebrations.  During the same night, Khumo Property, the custodians of Airport Junction Mall, had hosted the media teams among them Yarona FM, Gabz FM, Sunday Standard and Weekend Post, who took part in the 5th anniversary 5-aside football tournament. DJ Fresh donning a T-shirt written ‘Music’, also joined Khumo Property Asset Management Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Outule Bale in conducting the 5-aside media draw football tourney. “I am so looking forward to the Yarona FM and Gabz FM game and whoever wins can keep Dollar Mac. It was a fun night filled with good music, great people and good conversations all courtesy of Khumo Property and Airport Junction mall. The festivities continued on Saturday morning until the evening during the mall’s family fun-day where activities such as body-building, 5-aside media football tournament, taichi showdown and kiddies’ games took centre stage.

DJ Fresh played an immaculate set in between his pristine MCing skills joined by Botswana’s talented duo of German Dollar and Jam-N-I, who were also exceptional in their musical sets. The fun-filled afternoon was spiced up by taichi karate demonstrations as well as Botswana’s strongest men flexing their muscles to the amusement of customers and tenants especially the female folk.

The evening concluded with Gabz FM being crowned champions after defeating Sunday Standard 2-0 in the finals of the 5-aside media football tournament. The high-end shopping mall is managed by Khumo Property Asset Management (Pty) Ltd.  “Airport Junction Mall first opened its doors for trade on 26th of April 2012, signifying the coming together of the owners’ vision, the belief by the tenants in the potential that the mall carried a bold expression of commitment by the owners to the development of Botswana,” said Khumo Property Asset Management Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Outule Bale.

Asked about the mall’s expansion plans, the CEO said, “Malls generally go through cyclical periods of either revamp or expansion. We will all have to wait to see what happens next at Airport Junction, with the culmination of its first five years of existence.” For her part, Khumo Property Asset Management Retail Property Manager, Nazly Dawood, said that plans for the next five years include a vision to maintain the growth and the mall’s status as the dominant shopping centre in the area, as well as to maintain community involvement, and to continuously improve customers’ overall shopping experience.
