TAFIC, Rollers collide in Ghetto

The BTC Premiership between Francistown giants TAFIC Sporting Club and 2016/17 reigning champions Township Rollers will headline the start of the new football season this weekend. Matjimenyenga will face off against the mighty Popa this Saturday at the popular Francistown Sports complex. The home town legends are expected to go all out and pull a shock upset against the MmaMasire glamour boys.

However, this time around things are bound to be different after TAFIC have just been promoted in the premier league following a five year spell in the dusty Northern First division league. It will take a brilliant game plan and a bit of luck to pull an upset over Rollers. Speaking to Sun Sports in an exclusive interview this week, TAFIC spokesperson Warrant Kolola did not hide his excitement ahead of their first league game against the multiple league champions.

According to Kolola, TAFIC have what it takes to challenge for the league honours without any fear from any team in order to reclaim their former glory. Kolola revealed that during their days in the Premier league, Township Rollers was never a threat as they have defeated the MmaMasire giants on numerous occasions at the Francistown Old Stadium.

“In 2010, we managed to beat Popa Popa 3-1 thanks to a brace by our then prolific striker Audience Rondova who frustrated their defence before passing two goals through Dambe’s goal posts,” Kolola said. Although it is a different league altogether, Kolola is optimistic that the team will put up a brave fight against Rollers without being intimidated by the star studded team. On the other hand, Township captain Maano Ditshupo has been quoted in the local media warning their rivals of their intentions to win everything on offer and his warning should not be taken lightly since Rollers would love to bag every three points and their intended collection of points from the start of the league will definitely give Tafic coach and players sleepless nights.
