Resuscitation... GU recovery begins
The struggling Botswana Premier League prominent out-fit, Gaborone United (GU) is recuperating under the care of the team’s elderly, who have taken over the running of the embattled BTC Premiership outfit club recently.
This was revealed at a press conference in Gaborone this week.According to one of the elders, Tymon Katlholo, during the last season GU had to field an incomplete team twice, which is an unusual development. This embarrassing spell attracted attention of the team community and a recent GU Special General Meeting in Palapye declared the situation as a crisis hence the involvement of the team elders.
It was further emphasised by Seth Kaizer Brown that the club was broke and was hoping to attract sponsors before the start of the league on the 18th of August.
The General Manager, Olebile Sikwane revealed that the team has since sold two players to Chippa United, and two players to Township Rollers, among others, to ease the financial constrain.
The Money Machine have since signed a few players and are still in need of about 10 to 15 players. For his part GU chairperson Boitumelo Nsunge explained that the elders are there to supervise a smooth transition of the new management.
We want to bring young talent and experience and build a team that will stay for a minimum of ten years to come,” Nsunge said, adding that he is unable to give details of the team’s losses because financial statements have not been prepared yet.
