Ostriches dare army men

BDF XI will travel to Itekeng Stadium this Friday where they will try to be the first beMOBILE Premiership team to beat Orapa United at their home ground.
Thus far, the Ostriches of Orapa remain undefeated at their home ground. Their performance at the Itekeng fortress has not gone unnoticed by both rival teams and supporters.

They have built a reputation where opposing teams have to always double their efforts in preparations for matches scheduled for the Itekeng Stadium. Even the undefeated highflying championship leaders Township Rollers came back with only one point after drawing 1-1 with the diamond mining town outfit.

This means Matebele, as BDF XI are popularly known, will be in for a difficult game after their all 1-all draw with Rollers this past weekend. On the other hand, Orapa will come with extra motivation following a big win over Selibe Phikwe minnows FC Satmos over the weekend.

So far there has been nothing between both Matebele and Ostriches in the league log standing. The past weekend saw Orapa taking maximum points and extending their lead to 35 points while Matebele managed to go only one up with 30 points.

In an interview this week, Orapa United spokesperson Tebatso Hule said even after their game with the army side, the Ostriches will still be undefeated at home. “The team has had a good record at home and we plan to maintain that. The idea is not to just participate but compete and win the league,” he said.

Hule said they have built a reputation at Itekeng and the positive results from the team have brought the Orapa community together. Even supporters from surrounding villages travel to the tiny town for their home games as they would once again do for this Friday’s 1900hrs kick off.

There will be more action on Friday, with Township Rollers taking on Nico United at the Francistown Sport Complex at 1900hrs while Motlakase and Mochudi Centre Chiefs slug it out at the Serowe Sport Complex.
