The BDF XI football development team Matebejana is celebrating 20 years of existence. The anniversary celebrations will be held at the national stadium on the 21st of July 2018. Addressing the team stakeholders and members of the press this week, Matebejana Chairman Onkemetse Masena said the team has grown with years and they look to the future with high hopes and a clear vision of what they want to achieve.
Masena said systems have been put in place to ensure that the current structures of the team is one that will attract good players, sound management and profitable partnerships with the private sector. Having gained promotion to the first division two years ago, Masena said it has not been smooth sailing on their side and they had to weather the storm to ensure that that they keep their league status. Matebejana was formulated to ensure that young boys at BDF do not roam the streets and indulge in bad practices. To this end, Masena is confident that they have been doing well as far as unearthing talent is concerned. His side he said has produced some the best performing players in this country who have since gone for greener pastures outside Matebejana.
”Not only have we developed players but also officials who continue to represent the ideals of the team in many games both locally and internationally,” Masena said. As part of the celebrations, Matebejana are expected to host a soccer tournament on the day. Four teams are expected to play and one of the teams is said to be an international team that is yet to confirm participation. Additionally, Matebejana are expected to host a youth tournament for young boys and girls in the Kweneng region. The tournament is scheduled to start this weekend and the finals will be hosted on the 9th of June.
