Maloka wins Table Tennis Championship

Moshupa Spinners Club’s Bokang Maloka has emerged the New Horizon Table Tennis Open Men’s single champion this past weekend. Maloka beat his longtime rival Bonolo Mabote in the highly contested senior men’s category after winning the game 3-0.In an interview this week, Maloka explained how he has managed to stop Mabote’s grip of the champion.” I was well prepared for this game I knew I was going to face him in the tournament, so I was prepared for everything he will bring to me,” he said.

“I had improved my game beyond measure, I was consistent throughout the entire tournament and the final too that’s the only way I managed to outplay him. Also I recently participated in the South African Championships in Klerksdorp, which sharpened me for any challenge locally.Maloka said he discovered the secret to Mabote’s success as he has managed to counter his formidable foe and win the champion. “I first beat him 3-2 last year in the Smash Maniac Open so I knew both his strength and weaknesses.”

Maloka said his confidence and hard work have been the cog to great performances that he continues to display both locally and internationally, he further urged youngsters in the sport to work tirelessly towards achieving their dreams through sport.In other categories Tshepiso Rebatenne of Nhabe attained gold in the Senior Women category while Smash Maniac’s Boitshwarelo Butale could merely settled for Silver, Olorato Ramagapu from Smash Maniacs and Oratile Kedisaletse of Tru Identity knotted their performance to a bronze medal.

The U21 Men’s singles category saw Mooketsi Tshenolo of BDF wholly dominating the pack, winning gold with Tshiereletso Samuel winning a silver medal for his Club Tru Identity. Thuto Nthaga of BDF and Boago Malobela of Smash Maniacs both picked up the bronze.For the women’s side, Tshegofatso Matalo of Tru Identity was the gold winner after trouncing over fellow teammate Oratile Kedisaletse who settled for silver, Morwesi Moalosi and Fela Mashunga of Smash Maniacs and Nhabe respectively dropped to the bronze medal honor.

In the team events, Smash Maniacs Men's Team emerged victors as they collected the gold medal with fashion after breaking through the cracks of BDF who got silver, Nhabe and Moshupa Spinners were the bronze winners. Tru Identity Women's Team emerged gold medal winners after a highly contested match against Smash Maniacs who finished second with a silver medal, Nhabe and BDF shared the spoils as both clubs could only gather bronze medals.
