Fat bonuses dangled at GU players

BTC premiership outfit Gaborone United have reportedly been given financial incentives to   reverse their faltering fortunes in the 6th edition of the lucrative Mascom Top 8 tournament.

GU, popularly known as Moyagoleele, are expected to meet the marauding BDF XI at the Molepolole sports   complex for the second leg of their Top 8 encounter. In the first leg quarter  final game BDF XI beat GU 3-1, which means the latter will need to win the game 2-0 in order to stay in the competition.

This week GU secretary general Lepholetha ‘City’ Senne confirmed that GU players will have financial incentives for every game they win in the lucrative Top 8 tournament. In a brief    interview, Senne could not confirm the financial incentive on offer. However, impeccable sources say that each GU player has been offered close to P7000 for every game in the tournament.

“For every game they win they will be rewarded with a certain amount I cannot disclose yet, they have failed to pocket the money during the first leg but that is water under the bridge now,” Senne said.

Nevertheless, the limping former Gaborone giants have a mountain to climb when they take on BDF IX. The mouthwatering financial incentives might just be what headcoach Rudolf Zapata’s men need to reclaim the team’s glory. “Everything is possible we have prepared with the intentions to shoot down the soldiers,” Senne said

He urged his players to exercise patience “We started on the wrong foot coming from an improper pre-season, the players need to get their act together, football is not genetic it takes time to get the combinations and formations right,” he stated.

Moyagolele will be looking to end a painful losing streak after going five games without a win in all competitions under the guidance of the Argentine Zapata, who is yet to showcase both tactical and formational prowess.
