Dormant Vball team for Zone IV

The once vibrant and successful Botswana Volleyball Association (BVF) and its affiliates are going through a rough patch. The situation is made even worse by the fact that the national team is preparing for the 2017 Zone 6 and African championships. This season the BVF has failed to run the once successful league due to lack of sponsorship. Former BVF league sponsors Mascom Wireless ended their partnership with the sport code last season.

Police VI men and Kalavango women recently qualified for Zone VI. Police VI coach Shimaka Ngwanaotsile recently expressed disappointment over preparations ahead of regional and continental competitions. The Zone VI champions will be hosted in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. “The team is ok; problem is that we are not active this year.

There is no league and there is no how I can judge the fitness of my players,” explained Police coach. Meanwhile, Police VI Secretary General Moitshepi Phiri said they couldn’t calculate their trip to Bulawayo, as they are yet to receive the official correspondence from the local federation. “It is costly but as it stands now I cannot say how much we are going to spend. We must have invitation from the local association communicating all logistics including accommodation and transport”, explained Phiri.

Sun Sport is in possession of press release from Zimbabwe Volleyball Association, informing stakeholders that it will be hosting the 2017 edition at the ZITF hall for indoor volleyball, and Khumalo Hockey Stadium beach volleyball. The tournament will run from 7-17 December 2017. According to the press release the host expects 20 men and 20 ladies teams in both forms of the game.

It is not yet clear how many teams from Botswana received invite to participate at the regional interclub competition. In a recent interview, Kalavango coach Isaac Thengelani said his side is also awaiting correspondence from the regional office, though they have the privilege as BMW capital cup winners. “We have been organising friendly tournaments to keep players in shape.

My players also participate in beach volleyball tournaments to keep their fitness level high,” explained Kalavango coach. Mafolofolo and Kutlwano had previously played and won in women category, while men still find it hard to bring home a gold medal. BVF vice president George Keotsene could not be reached for comment as his phone rang unanswered.
