Botswana Karate Team off to explosive start in Cape Town

The annual Ryushinkan International Karate Africa Championship that began this Friday in South Africa kicked up to an impressive start for the Botswana team that managed a haul of 9 medals on Day One.

The karate championship that attracts several nations from Africa is ongoing in Cape Town where a good number of Botswana athletes got off to a great start.

Molefe Molemi claimed the first Gold medal of the day in the Under-84kg Kumite Category, a feat also achieved by Kamogelo Max Mmenyane who in addition to his Gold medal in the Under-67kg Kumite, also claimed a Bronze in Kata.

Teko Kabelo was unstoppable in the Over-84kg Gold Kumite Category, trouncing his compatriot Kago Russel Makwate who settled for Silver. Makwate would later redeem himself when he stood out in the Male Individual Kata, scooping another Gold medal for Team Botswana.

Other winners from the Botswana team include Karabo Ramotswela who posted a Silver medal performance in the Under 21kg Kumite while Katlego Keitirile settled for the Under-21kg Bronze medal.  Veteran Nelson Matshameko was relegated to a Bronze medal in the Under-75kg Kumite category.
The tournament continues this Saturday with the minors category expected to thrill.
