Woman charged with possession of foreign currency granted bail

A 38 year old  Kanye woman  charged  with   possession of  fake  currency  was  lucky  to  be  granted   bail  by the  Francistown  Magistrate  court this  week. Annah Ndjirayano who was found in possession of 100 US dollars fake notes on the 20th of October last year.

The Francistown  vendor  was  faces a with a single count for possession of fake currency and  faces  up  to   seven  years   in prison. According to  the  charge sheet, the accused was found with 19 fake 100 US dollar notes. She  recently  pleaded  not guilty when  she  appeared   in  court.

Some  of Ndjirayano’s  bail  conditions  including  paying  P1000 in  cash. “Provide two sureties each pay P500, report to the nearest police station and do not come in contact with witnesses,”  said Francistown Magistrate Dumisani Basupi when  delivering  the  bail  ruling.

The  magistrate  contested   that the issue involves foreign currency and therefore the  matter  is  a cross border offence. Prosecuting Officer Mangisto Chigala said that investigations in the matterhave  since  been  completed.
