We run accredited courses- Botho college
In the wake the recent boycott of classes and a demonstration against book allowances and ‘unaccredited’ courses at Botho University, the university management has recently argued that their institution runs with approved programs.
The University Vice Chancellor, Sheela Raja Ram said that Botho has always taken regulatory requirements very seriously as well as being complaint all the time. “We were the first institution to be registered with the TEC as per the Tertiary Education Act and have always offered programmes that are compliant,” she said.
For his part, the External Relations Dean, Golekanye Setume said the university has submitted all its programmes for accreditation as per the regulations to Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA).
He explained that the accreditation is still on going as of January 1st, therefore BQA has informed all the institutions that they would give feed back regarding the programs’ status within six months period. “All institutions currently await the BQA processes to be completed. Thus, none of our programs have been rejected at accreditation. Our programmes are either accredited or awaiting accreditation,” emphasized Setume.
Asked about what is going to happen to some approved programs that may not be accredited towards the end of the ongoing accreditation process, Setume told The Midweek Sun online publication that BQA said that they would have a solution for that. Thus, none of the current students will encounter a loss because of any program they are studying at Botho. “In that case, there is also likely to be an arranged transfer to another institution,” he said.
