The Broadcasters summit attracts 200 primary school students

A local   organisation representing aspiring media practitioners, The Broadcasters, last week gathered more than 200 students from 20 local schools for the annual competitive summit at Francistown.

The summit, which lasted for two days attracted children from local primary schools to the media inspired competition comprising of debates, quizzes, essay writing, and demonstrations amongst others. Held under the theme, ‘50 years of nation building through broadcasting,’ the activities of the event centred on the role of broadcasting in nation building during Botswana’s 50 years of independence.

Speaking at the official opening of the summit, veteran journalist, Tarcisious Modongo applauded The Broadcasters, an organization of youthful Limkokwing University alumni, who aim to promote local media and inspire future industry practitioners.

In addition, Modongo appreciated media in general, for its contribution to informing members of the society. Therefore, he encouraged students to be avid readers of newspapers and listen as well as watch news to stay updated with international current events.

The conclusion of the competition saw Taung Primary School from Gaborone becoming the overall best school at this year’s summit.
