Suspended BPP treasurer Dan quits

Botswana People’s Party (BPP) suspended treasurer and former Themashanga councillor who was floored during the past general elections Tongomani Dan is said to be heading to Botswana Democratic Party (BDP). His defection comes after he and Peter Thabani, the publicity secretary were charged for stealing more than P160 000-00 from the party. Although their case is yet to be brought before court for prosecution, Dan has admitted to this publication that he is no longer a member of BPP but declined to name his next home. “Although I am no longer a BPP member, I have not yet informed them of my decision nor written them any official letter something I will do in the near future.

I have decided to concentrate on running my businesses but will not rule out the possibilities of joining another party if recruited. “In politics, there is no permanent enemy since one is free to join any political party of his choice and I will not be wrong to join any party since I will be exercising my democratic rights,” he explained. In the past general elections, the incumbent BDP councillor at Themashanga, Kudzani had narrowly beaten Dan by only three votes. This gave BDP sleepless nights especially the area MP Samson Moyo Guma who allegedly financed the councillor. When contacted for a comment on the looming movement of Dan BPP Secretary General Venter Galetshabiwe denied any knowledge of their suspended treasurer’s defection to the ruling party. Instead, he explained that for a member to defect to another party, one has to tender a resignation letter, which Dan has not done.
